Exercising your Dachshund
No matter their size, all dogs require daily exercise to stay happy and healthy! Exercising your Dachshund is good for their physical health, mental health, and socialization skills! Enjoy exercising your doxie all year round with the Pet Pawsabilities™ No-Pull Dog Harness.
How Much Exercise Does My Dachshund Need?
While larger breeds may require up to two hours of exercise a day, our small friends benefit from shorter, less rigorous exercise. Miniature Dachshunds are their happiest and healthiest with about 30 minutes of exercise a day. Standard Dachshunds are happiest with about 60 minutes a day. It’s a great idea to break up this time into two different activities each day! Don’t forget that exercise needs vary and are based on age and fitness level as well.
How Do I Exercise My Dachshund?
With short pudgy legs and long bodies, your doxie needs an exercise routine as unique as they are. Due to their extra-long bodies, Dachshunds are susceptible to a weakening vertebra, also known as intervertebral disc disease (IDD). A walk around the block is a great exercise for your dog and is always a great choice to protect their back and spine. When choosing a walk, wear dog boots or take care to walk your pup on a soft surface like earthy trails or grass. Hard surfaces can cause extra strain to their delicate joints!
